LAGOS STATE TO LAUNCH EDUCATION ACCESS FUND (LEAF) TO TACKLE OUT-OF-SCHOOL CHILDREN

 

The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) and its strategic partner, the Education Outcomes Fund (EOF), is set to officially launch the Lagos State Education Access Fund (LEAF)—a groundbreaking initiative designed to reintegrate out-of-school children into the formal education system across the state.

The initiative represents a major step by the state government to address the persistent challenge of out-of-school children while strengthening access to inclusive and quality basic education for every child in Lagos.

The Lagos Education Access Fund (LEAF) will provide targeted support for vulnerable children and their parents, helping remove barriers that prevent many young learners from attending school. Through the programme, affected children will be given a renewed opportunity to return to school, acquire foundational knowledge, and build a pathway toward a brighter and more productive future.

The programme is being implemented in collaboration with global development partners including the Education Outcomes Fund (EOF), the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), the UBS Optimus Foundation, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, all of whom share a strong commitment to improving learning outcomes and expanding educational opportunities for disadvantaged children.

The official launch event will bring together key stakeholders in the education sector, government officials, development partners, educators, and policy experts to deliberate on strategies for the successful implementation of the programme and the long-term sustainability of education access initiatives in Lagos State.

The event is scheduled to take place at the State House, Marina, Lagos, on Friday, 13th March, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, will grace the occasion alongside the Chief Executive Officer of the Education Outcomes Fund, Dr. Amel Karboul, who will attend as the Special Guest.

The event will be hosted by the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, while the Chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), Dr. Hakeem Babatunde Shittu, will serve as the host.

The launch of LEAF underscores the Lagos State Government’s continued commitment to ensuring that no child is left behind in the pursuit of education, while reinforcing its broader vision of building a knowledge-driven society where every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.
