Tension gripped residents of Shitta area in Surulere on Monday night following a violent cult-related attack that reportedly claimed the life of a suspected member of the ACN (Eiye) confraternity.
According to information gathered by Lagosnewsblog, the victim, identified by sources as Ikujowolo, also known to some as Ikuforiiji, was allegedly attacked by suspected members of the NBM (Aye) confraternity. Eyewitness accounts reveal that the assailants arrived at the scene in a commercial tricycle (popularly known as keke) and opened fire on the victim inside a POS shop within the community.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was later confirmed dead around midnight. As of the time of filing this report, the victim’s photograph has not been obtained. It will be published once available.
Alleged Retaliatory Attack
Residents and local sources suggest the incident may have been a reprisal attack linked to the earlier killing of a former NBM leader known as “Chicken,” who was reportedly murdered in the Small London area of Surulere. That earlier incident was first reported in January 2026.
Community members allege that one of the attackers may be a notorious cultist believed to be operating from Orile Iganmu. They further claim that surveillance cameras are installed in the vicinity of the attack and insist that law enforcement agencies should be able to identify and apprehend those responsible if a thorough investigation is conducted.
Growing Concerns Over Security
The incident has reignited concerns over cult-related violence in Surulere and its surrounding communities. Residents are calling on security agencies to intensify efforts in tracking down perpetrators to prevent further escalation and avoid additional loss of lives.
Community leaders are also urging young people to reject cultism and avoid being drawn into violent rivalries that continue to destabilize neighborhoods and endanger innocent lives.
